TEACHING ASSISTANT LEVEL 1 (3 posts)

NJC scale point 3

£18,065 per annum (full time, full year salary)

£13,401 per annum (actual salary, pro rata)

SEN Allowance £1,289 per annum

New Bridge Multi Academy Trust (MAT) presently comprises New Bridge School, New Bridge Learning Centre, Spring Brook Academy, Hollinwood Academy (all situated in Oldham) and Hawthorns School (situated in Audenshaw). Our new AP free school, the Springboard Project opened in September 2019. We support the learning, social and pastoral needs of over 700 young people aged between 4 and 19 years.

New Bridge College is an extension of New Bridge School, our generic secondary special school. Based at Medtia Square in Oldham town centre, the college provides a learning space and hub for students from our 16-19 population. The college offers a number of specialist vocational pathways for the young people including; Sport, ICT, the Arts and Pre-internship in addition to innovative work experience programmes at various locations within Oldham providing work-based learning opportunities for our young people.

There is an exciting opportunity for three resilient and enthusiastic Level 1 Teaching Assistants to join our fantastic team based at the Medtia campus. This role will be challenging, yet very rewarding and appropriate training will be provided. Due to the nature of their disability, some students require one to one support which will also be a requirement of the role.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate how they meet the following essential criteria:

  • Previous experience of working with young people of secondary school age who may present with challenging behaviour and complex needs, preferably within an educational setting
  • A nurturing and empathetic approach to behaviour management and the ability to manage difficult situations in a calm and coherent manner using appropriate de-escalation strategies
  • The physical and emotional resilience to support students with complex needs, taking a non-judgemental approach
  • The ability to support teaching and learning within a college setting to a dedicated student, or groups of students when required up to at least GCSE level
  • The ability to support the class teacher to monitor student progress, ensuring their improved engagement with the school and their learning
  • The ability to record student progress and provide regular feedback to stakeholders
  • The ability to model and encourage appropriate social behaviour in and out of school and to cater for the general welfare of students
  • The ability to work in partnership with classroom teachers to differentiate appropriate interventions for students in relation to the curriculum
  • The ability to work as part of a team using own initiative when needed
  • Willingness to participate in own professional development

 

In addition to the above, it would be desirable if the post holder was able to demonstrate:

  • An understanding of ASD, ADHD and the impact this can have on social and emotional wellbeing
  • The ability to support students on a 1:1 basis to regulate their behaviour
  • An understanding of intervention programmes such as CBT to support the learners
  • A willingness to take on medical training to support individuals at college
  • The ability to liaise appropriately with outside agencies and families when needed, and to follow and implement strategies identified by external agencies.

Salary: NJC Point 3 - £18,065 per annum (based upon full time / full year)

Actual salary: £13,401 per annum (pro rata)

Allowance: SEN allowance £1,289 per annum

Contracted hours: 32 hours 55 minutes per week / term time only (190 days)

Based: Initially at New Bridge College - Medtia Site, 1, Medtia Square, Phoenix Street, Oldham OL1 1AN
