Role Overview: 

We are looking for a Research Engagement and Consultation Officer to join our newly formed Research Engagement and Consultation team. 

It’s an exciting time to join our Communications and Research Team at Oldham Council as we embark on new engagement activities with our residents and stakeholders.The Research, Engagement and Consultation officer role will work to build relationships with local communities and service users, ensuring local priorities are understood and cascaded throughout the organisation.

The role will gather evidence and insight using a variety of methods to help shape influence policy decisions, shape services and support life enhancing campaigns.The role is at the heart of a service transformation and it really is an opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed research and engagement specialist to stamp their mark on this brand-new role.


Key Responsibilities:

  • To deliver the council’s approaches to community engagement, research and consultation to help inform evidence based decision-making and ensure key organisational and borough objectives are met
  • To deliver innovative solutions to engage and connect with a range of stakeholders on key issues
  • To design and implement effective evaluation techniques to support service delivery across the organisation.
  • To act as an adviser to stakeholders at all levels on best practice engagement, consultation and research
  • To prepare reports and present research appropriately tailored to a wide range of audiences including chief officers, the Leader and Cabinet Members, as well as service users, helping to ensure that research findings influence service delivery and policy.
Key Requirements 

To succeed in this role, you will need as a minimum:

  • Experience of developing and managing delivery of consultation, engagement and research activity including knowledge of engagement, qualitative and quantitative research methods and consultation
  • Ability to develop creative and innovative approaches to problems
  • Ability to interpret and analyse customer / resident insight and engagement outputs to help shape policy and approaches
