Role overview

The Strategy, Partnerships and Policy Team are looking for a proactive and enthusiastic Principal Policy Officer to join us working across both the partnership and corporate team.  We need someone who can help shape the plans and ambitions for Oldham and make those a reality through effective engagement, partnership and collaborative working.

 

The post would suit an experienced strategic thinker and problem solver, with a track record of the effective delivery of key priorities and projects through collaborative partnership working.

 

This is an exciting and varied role, offering a real opportunity to deliver in a fast-paced policy environment. Working as part of a committed and enthusiastic team, you will help to translate public sector innovation into practice through strong partnership working and creative policy projects.

 

Key responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for:

 

  • Ensuring the Oldham Partnership works collaboratively and effectively, maximising opportunities for Oldham through reputation, credibility and influence.
  • Supporting the work of the Oldham Partnership by providing policy, strategy and project support.
  • Leading the development and delivery of a range of corporate projects, strategies and frameworks that further the co-operative ambitions of the Council.
  • Building strong links across the organisation and with partners to ensure that the Council is well placed to respond to changes in legislation and operating context.
  • Provide capacity and support to the leadership of the Council and partners undertaking horizon scanning, preparing briefings, policy and project development, as well as effective communications with a range of stakeholders.

           

 

Key Requirements

To succeed in this role you will need as a minimum:

 

Outstanding communication skills (written and oral), analytical skills to research and evaluate complex and varied information, developing ideas and initiatives, and making recommendations for action which will underpin policies, proposals and solutions.

 

You will be experienced in successfully initiating, developing, managing and delivering a number of projects simultaneously and/or programmes with public sector partners, providers and organisations in the community, voluntary, faith, social enterprise and private sector.

 

You will also have experience of working with elected members and have a comprehensive level of political awareness and sensitivity with a clear understanding of the workings of local government and Greater Manchester.
