Based: Civic Centre Oldham, West Street, Oldham, OL1 1XJ

Role overview
This is an exciting opportunity to join the finance team to help support the way services are delivered in Oldham. The post of Accountant is a generic role, it will be based initially in the Children’s Social Care Directorate. The successful candidate will work closely with budget holders providing accurate, understandable and timely financial information to achieve economy, efficiency, effectiveness and best value. In addition the post holder will support the Finance Manager and Senior Accountant in delivering the corporate objectives of the Finance Service.
Key responsibilities
- Liaising with budget holders to ensure that all plans, initiatives and projects have appropriate financial input in a timely manner
- Preparation of detailed monthly forecasts
- Supporting the production of the statement of accounts and the annual budget setting process
- Dealing with finance related service enquiries including Freedom of Information requests
- Preparation and submission of grant claims
Key Requirements
To succeed in this role you will need as a minimum:
- Experience of monitoring and managing a complex budget area;
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills;
- Excellent organisational skills and an ability to plan ahead to achieve deadlines.
