We are looking for experienced, dynamic and highly motivated Residential Childcare Worker for one of our children’s residential care homes who shares our aspirations for children and young people in care in Oldham. You should be passionate about securing good outcomes for children, young people and families and have a sound knowledge of Legislation and Regulations for children’s homes.

 

Gemini House offers a Short Breaks Service for Children / young people with Additional and Complex Needs within an age range of 8 to 18 years. The home will accommodate up to six children / young people per stay for short breaks. The young people at Gemini House have a wide range of disabilities including physical disabilities, learning disabilities, sensory impairments, or Autistic spectrum disorders the post will require staff to support with personal care tasks, daily living skills and promoting the safeguard and welfare of the children.

 

The Children’s residential service supports the most vulnerable children and families from our communities and requires a well organised committed individual to lead from the front ensuring our children are safeguarded and managed in an individual bespoke way.     

 

Ofsted has recognised the progress we have made as a Service overall and our vision and commitment to deliver the very best services for children and families.  Our strong response to the Covid 19 pandemic focussed on the delivery of services whilst ensuring our workforce was safe and supported, which received national media attention.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To contribute to and implement individual care plans for children and young people, in partnership with parents, carers, social workers and other agencies.
  • To work directly with children, young people and families, providing practical help, advice and guidance on issues affecting family, relationship and functioning, whilst subject to being in the care of the Local Authority. This will include supporting the children with day to day living and supporting them with independence tasks enabling them to prepare for adult life.
  • To develop a local knowledge and understanding of resources which are available to meet the needs of the child and family, e.g. local children’s centres, family activities, leisure facilities, support groups for child/family, support of health related issues such as sexual health or drugs.
  • To provide written and verbal contributions to child protection conferences, Looked After Children (LAC) statutory reviews, multi-agency meetings and the children’s education and health reviews.

Key Requirements for the Role:

 

In order to apply for this exciting position, we need you to have:

  • A Level 3 Qualification with experience of working with young people and families in a multi-agency setting.
  • GCSE English and Maths
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral to effectively work with families, colleagues and other agencies.
  • Organisational skills and ability to work on own initiative, prioritise own work and meet deadlines.
