Role Overview:

 

We are looking for an experienced Head of Communications and Research to drive the reputation of the organisation and borough among all stakeholders.

 

Working closely with the organisation’s Leadership team you will help to shape the council’s messaging and communications strategies helping us to promote our services and the borough to local and national audiences. You will also lead our approach to research and consultation across the organisation.

 

You will lead a multi-disciplinary communications and research function ensuring all activity is delivered to a high-standard and supports the ambitions and objectives of the borough and the council.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop a modern, proactive and creative communications and research, engagement and consultation strategy to meet the borough and organisation’s objectives and priorities
  • Act as a key advisor to senior management and political leadership working closely with them to develop narratives and messaging to support the delivery of strategies and plans and reputational issues
  • Provide effective leadership and management of the service, ensuring the team provide input and expertise into the development of programme, directorate, service or project communications plans as required to meet key business needs
  • Ensure communication and consultation activity provides a return on investment by managing the development of appropriate evaluation and insight mechanisms
  • Lead the development of a coordinated approach to community research and engagement to drive decision-making and service planning

 

Key Requirements:

  • Experience working at a senior level in a strategic communications and/or research role in a large, complex organisation
  • Experience in developing and implementing communications and/or research strategies for organisations
  • Experience leading a successful strategic communications function
  • Experience in managing positive relationships and networks with local, regional and national media
