This opportunity is open to internal and external applicants and registered applicants of the Get Oldham Working scheme. However, where a meaningful shortlist can be drawn from internal applicants in the first instance, and residents of Oldham subsequently, these applicants shall be given priority access to the vacancy in line with the Council's Recruitment and Selection Policy.
Role overview
You will be working as part of the Council’s Trading Standards & Licensing Team providing a valuable consumer protection role. You will review and investigate complaints and referrals, conduct visits and inspections and deal with infringements for a wide range of trading standards functions. You will also be required to liaise with and provide advice to local businesses to ensure compliance with consumer protection legislation.
Key responsibilities
Dealing with complaints and referrals in relation to business practices
Liaising with consumers and businesses
Inspecting and visiting business premises and dealing with infringements
Being lead officer for a particular area of TS work.
Key Requirements
To succeed in this role you will need as a minimum:
- A qualified and experience trading standards professional.
- Experience of working as part of a trading standards team dealing with a range of consumer protection and business regulation functions.
- Experience of handling criminal evidence, preparing prosecution reports and of giving evidence in court.
