New Bridge Multi Academy Trust (MAT) presently comprises New Bridge School, New Bridge Learning Centre, Spring Brook Academy, Hollinwood Academy and Hawthorns School. We support the learning, social and pastoral needs of over 700 young people aged between 4 and 19 years. In addition we also offer a post 19 provision, New Bridge Horizons, and a cafeteria concession, The Atrium, based in Oldham town centre. We also have supported pupil placements at the Royal Oldham Hospital and Manchester Metropolitan University. All these components form the New Bridge Group.

Part of the New Bridge Multi Academy Trust, Spring Brook Academy is an all-age school which caters for pupils with a range of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties, operating on a split site basis. Spring Brook Upper School, the secondary department, is based at our Dean Street site in Failsworth. The school delivers a personalised curriculum and offers qualifications up to GCSE level.

As a class deliverer/teacher you will work directly with a group of pupils with a range of complex needs (social, emotional and mental health), to ensure that barriers to learning are reduced and to support pupils to achieve their full potential. Our vision is to create an organisation that is successful, aspirational and sustainable. We ensure that our children and young people benefit from being a partner in the family of schools within Oldham.

The Trustees would like to invite applications from energetic and highly motivated practitioners who are looking to develop their career within this progressive organisation. Applications are welcome from candidates with QTS, unqualified teacher status or senior teaching assistants including HLTA status.

Main Duties are:

  • To plan and deliver a topic based Key Stage 3 curriculum to a dedicated group of pupils (split year 7/8)
  • To demonstrate a nurturing approach to behaviour management
  • To regularly monitor and assess the progress of pupils, ensuring their improved engagement with the school and their learning
  • To record progress and provide regular feedback to stakeholders.
  • To liaise with parents and carers on progress and personal development
  • To work in partnership with external agencies and providers including additional specialist provision
  • To model and encourage appropriate social behaviour in and out of school and to cater for the general welfare of pupils
  • To work in partnership with classroom teachers/deliverers to differentiate appropriate interventions for pupils in relation to the curriculum

Applicants should submit an application form setting out clearly how they meet the following criteria:

  • Previous experience of planning and delivering learning activities across a range of curriculum subject areas
  • Experience of working with children and young people in an educational setting to overcome barriers to their personal, social or learning development.
  • Knowledge and understanding of pupils with social, emotional and mental health difficulties
  • To have high expectations of young people, and a commitment to raising standards of attainment to ensure that they can achieve their full educational potential
  • Experience of developing options and alternatives that will support children and young people to engage in the learning process
  • Experience of managing challenging behaviour
  • The emotional and physical resilience necessary when working with disaffected and challenging young people with a range of complex needs
  • A genuine appreciation of the potential barriers to a pupil’s learning, and sensitivity towards their circumstances and life experiences
  • To be able to build positive relationships with the class group, ensuring consistency and continuity on a daily basis.
  • To be a team player who can work effectively with all members of the Spring Brook team

Although based initially at Spring Brook Academy, all staff are employed by the MAT and are expected to work at any site within the New Bridge Group. Candidates are welcome to arrange a visit on request (see below)
