Role overview

 

This is an exciting opportunity to join a department that is committed to service delivery and helping to shape the future of the borough. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated person with the ability to achieve targets providing a professional health and safety service

 

This service supports the Council’s aims and objectives and facilitates the effective management of health and safety risks, in order to ensure effective governance, statutory compliance and best practice across the Council as well as in the private sector.

 

Key responsibilities

  • To assist colleagues in the team on tasks such as offering Health and safety advice and support to internal services across the Council.
  • To build an effective relationship with our clients, across the Council and Schools to enable the delivery of projects and programmes of work.
  • Provide advice, guidance and support to our clients on health and safety matters and where necessary undertake visits to investigate accidents and incidents and provide on-site support.
  • Carry out and ensure completion of the workplace audit and inspection programme with our clients to determine the standards of compliance against the health and safety management framework, designated policies, procedures and relevant health and safety legislative requirements.
  • Produce reports and make recommendations regarding the implementation of new policies, practises and procedures and safe systems of work for our clients based on the jobholders own research, analysis and audit/inspection results.

Key Requirements

 

To succeed in this role you will need as a minimum:

  • Experience employed as a Health and Safety Practitioner applying legislative and practical health and safety standards in a large multi-disciplined organisation.
  • Experience of writing, reviewing and updating policies, procedures and guidance (proactive and reactive) relating to health and safety in line with new legislation, best practice, criminal or civil interventions, accidents or new initiatives undertaken by the organisation
  • Experience of undertaking workplace audits and inspections to evaluate Health and Safety compliance
