Role Overview:

 

We are looking for experienced strategic communicators to help us make a difference.

 

You will shape communications strategy and lead delivery of activity for the council, developing creative solutions to the organisation’s objectives and challenges and acting as an advisor to senior management and political leaders.

 

You will work to promote Oldham and the council’s services to diverse audiences using insight to shape approaches and ensuring activity is evaluated to ensure value for money.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • To act as a key adviser to Directorate management and Portfolio Holders in the effective use of communications and marketing to meet their business objectives and to challenge where required to protect overall reputation and brand
  • To manage the reputation of the council and its services managing reactive issues, crises and emergencies and designing proactive solutions to communication problems
  • To develop modern, proactive and creative communications and engagement strategies, plans, messaging, activity and campaigns to meet the directorates objectives and priorities

 

Key Requirements:

  • Experience of developing and managing delivery of communication campaigns and activity in a large, complex organisation
  • Ability to influence and shape policy and decision-making among senior leaders on issues relating to reputation management and effective communication 
  • Experience working with local, regional, national and trade media stakeholders to influence opinion and drive coverage
  • Demonstrable experience in using insight to shape messaging and activity that changes behaviours and views or drives outcomes and using evaluation to monitor success against those campaigns
