Role Overview:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and innovative nurse to join the Health Protection Team at Oldham Borough Council to provide infection prevention and control support and advice across the borough for community services in health and social care, and other sectors, you will have a key role in preventing and managing the spread of COVID-19.

These are two 12-month fixed-term full-time posts to be filled either by a formal recruitment or via secondment.

You will be part of a small, responsive team and you will be supported in providing Health Protection advice which includes specialist infection prevention and control.  You will be expected to deliver training and audits to all community services within Oldham Cares and provide proactive and reactive support during outbreaks to the population of Oldham.

Successful applicants will be employed under the Oldham Council terms and conditions of service.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • To provide infection prevention and control advice to community settings and services to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and support the effective management and containment of outbreaks.
  • To lead on quality improvement and performance monitoring activities relating to Healthcare Associated Infections (HCAI) agenda across internal and external organisations (e.g. Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust, Pennine Acute Hospital Trust, General Practice, Care Homes and other community settings in Oldham)
  • To carry out audits relating infection prevention and control practices, including leading root cause analyses and identifying lapses in the quality of care on behalf of NHS Oldham Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), Oldham Cares and Oldham Council.
  • To deputise and, in the absence of the Health Protection Nurse, lead on the implementation of Infection Control Components in the revised Health and Social Care Act (2012) for the Prevention and Control of Healthcare Associated Infections (HCAI). This includes leading on elements of the health protection programme relating to communicable disease, non-communicable environment hazards, screening and immunisation and supporting the Council’s emergency planning role.

 

Key Requirements:

  • Applicants must be a registered nurse with a minimum of 2 years nursing experience as well as experience in working in infection prevention and control (e.g. IP&C Link nurse) and be able to work with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively advise and support stakeholders infection prevention and control practices with confidence and challenge inadequate practice where appropriate
