Role Overview: 

Working within the council’s Early Years, Education & Skills division, you will be the S< for the Early Language Support for Every Child (ELSEC) programme, contributing to the design and implementation of innovative ways of working for the pilot project.  As a result of your work, there will be a better understanding of speech, language and communication needs at the universal and targeted level within schools and educational settings.  This will result in better understanding of the needs of children and young people and demands within our local area SEND system, particularly in the context of speech, language and communication needs.

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Apply specialist knowledge of speech and language therapy, for the Early Language Support for Every Child (ELSEC) programme.
  • Trial new ways of working to better identify and support children with speech, language and communication needs in early years and primary schools, including developing and delivering innovative practice to improve universal provision and access to speech and language therapy for those who need it.
  • Assist with quality improvement initiatives, applying project management disciplines through the application of service improvement tools and techniques to advance service initiatives.
  • Carry out operational management several S< Assistants in the ELSEC team, and support the Lead S< in, developing protocols and processes, team and service developments, and assigning and monitoring caseloads.
  • Identify potential areas for quality improvement, research and audit, initiate developments of research proposals and participate in data collection and report on key performance indicators for the team.

Key Requirements:

To succeed in this role, you will need as a minimum:

  • The ability to operate, under the direction of the Lead S< (ELSEC) as an autonomous, registered, health care professional who is legally and professionally accountable for own unsupervised actions, guided by the professional code of conduct for S< professionals.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively advise and support partners in the local area, based on professional expertise, evaluation and evidence.
  • Excellent organisational skills to agree, develop and project manage the work of the ELSEC team in the implementation of the programme.
